Misty River @ Wyandotte Boat Club

Participants in MRO²'s programs hosted at the Wyandotte Boat Club have the opportunity to step back into rowing history. Founded in 1875 , the Wyandotte Boat Club is the second oldest in the nation. WBC is located on the Detroit River about 15 miles "downriver" of Detroit, in the city of Wyandotte . The Wyandotte Boat Club is the largest rowing facility in the United States. The lower level of the club features two massive indoor tanks, a weight room, ergometer room, coach's office, men's and women's locker rooms, five storage bays that can hold over 100 plus shells, and a workshop for repairs. The second level of the club features a beautiful bar and dance floor where members can enjoy each others company, a meeting room, outside patio, and a balcony overlooking the river.

Truly an example of business, industry, and community teamwork, the new facility was made possible through the sponsorship of: Members of the W.B.C., The City of Wyandotte, BASF Corp, William E. Kreger, Hienz Prechter/Heritage Fund, Charter National Bank, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital , and Chrysler Corp Fund.

MRO² programs at WBC are offered year round with rowing experiences in indoor tanks and on the Detroit River. WBC's traditional Rowing Club atmosphere provides an historic and dramatic backdrop for Misty River courses—and the Club's proud heritage and spirit of its members and student athletes, who are engaged as speakers in some of the sessions, adds to the depth of the rowing experience.

Within the Club's new facility are two specially designed indoor rowing tanks. The tanks are used by all of the rowing programs for technique and style training. They have been shown to be of great benefit in the training of novice rowers. During the off season, the tanks are rented by the hour to outside schools and universities. University of Michigan Men 's Heavy Weight Crew has used the tanks for the last three years along with a number of other schools throughout the state.

The new facilities Ergometer Room is equipped with 26 new Ergs, nine of which were purchased this year by the WBC Foundation. The Foundation is a tax deductible entity that raises funds to assist the Club with its many programs.

Across the hall from the Erg Room is a fully equipped Weight Room. The room has many weight machines specific to rowing exercises and a full set of free weights.

The second floor of the facility contains this spacious meeting room and bar along with a conference room, offices, out door patio, riverside viewing deck, and storage. Misty River has access to the complete facility for scheduled events--providing a wide range of options for our clients in designing the perfect blend of components for a successful experience. Old style 'mini-regattas' and ice cream socials in historic style can be held on the riverfront at WBC. These can include the participants' families at the close of client programs and are a dynamic and popular way to share and close the session.
